Every day we’re faced with an onslaught of album announcements so we thought we’d start sharing the soon-to-be-released love by putting together a list of the most notable and exciting album announcements on a weekly basis.

This week’s features the much anticipated re-issue of Nirvana’s last official studio album,  a new solo record from Jonathan Rice,  some local releases from Wolf & Cub and Adalita, and more!

Jonathan Rice
Good Graces

Rice’s third solo album and first since he released the critically lauded I’m Having Fun Now with Jenny Lewis as Jenny & Johnny in 2010 is out soon.

Although unequivocally his vision, Rice wasn’t entirely alone during the recording of Good Graces with help from Wiley Gelber, Jason Boesel, Pierre de Reeder and many others.

The record also features vocal contributions from Z Berg as well as Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins for the track ‘Lou Rider’, which Rice explains that “the vocal is kinda Lou Reed and the groove is kinda Low Rider.”

The record’s first single ‘Nowhere At The Speed Of Light’ marries organic instrumentation with the track.

Adalita
All Day Venus

Recorded with renowned producer Lindsay Gravina at Birdland Studios in Melbourne, All Day Venus is the follow up to Adalita’s acclaimed self-titled LP.

Borne from periods of intense creativity and personal reflection, the twelve songs on the album are dark, brooding and unflinchingly honest, bursting with energy and physicality. This is an album aimed equally at the head, heart, hips and feet.

The first glimpse of the new LP was revealed at the beginning of July, with the release of the title track. With its eloquent and insightful lyrics and exhilarating, reverb-soaked guitars, ‘All Day Venus’ proclaimed the return of one of our most lauded and loved local artists.

Check out our interview with the songstress here.

The Paradigm Shift

Grammy Award-winning multiplatinum hard rock innovators KORN have revealed their 11th studio album.

It marks the emotional return of much-revered co-founding guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch for his first album with Korn since 2003’s Take A Look In The Mirror.

This record serves as the follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed 2011 dubsteb-metal hybrid The Path Of Totality, which entered the Top 10 in the US Billboard chart.

The record will mark Korn’s first time working with super-producer Don Gilmore, whose legacy also includes producing Linkin Park’s legendary ‘Hybrid Theory’ album

Blitzen Trapper
VII

Americana stalwarts Blitzen Trapper have announced their seventh studio album.

VII opens with “Feel The Chill,” a southern adventure complete with a woman in her underwear, deer hunting, and of course drowning at the local bar.

The band take us down a crooked bend so dark and gloomy you can smell the heat and feel the humidity oppress you.

Frontman Eric Earley has said of the upcoming release “”Each song starts from a small place, a headwater-like remembrance and then widens into a song. May these songs minister in ways mysterious and eternal, or at least maybe make you shake a hip.”

VII is out out October 4 via Vagrant/Shock Records

Tracklisting not yet available.

Nirvana
In Utero: 20th Anniversary Edition

To say that Nirvana’s third and ultimately final studio album In Utero was 1993’s most polarizing record would be the understatement of a decade.

The unadorned sonic rawness of Steve Albini’s recording laid bare every primal nuance of the most confrontational yet vulnerable material Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl would ever record.

Universal Music Group will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the unwitting swansong of the single most influential artist of the 1990s with a multi-format release that spreads more than 70 remastered, remixed, rare, unreleased and live recordings over configurations ranging from a 3-CD/1-DVD Super Deluxe Edition to a standard digital/CD remaster of the original album.
