Independent Sydney radio station FBI has announced that its experiment in holding live nights upstairs at the Kings Cross Hotel has been so successful that it will continue on a permanent basis. Contrary to the usual news we receive about Sydney live music venues shutting down on a regular basis, FBI Radio general manager Evan Kaldor says “The trial has far exceeded our expectations – we’ve had over 6,000 punters attending 40 gigs played by 80 bands from across Sydney and Australia. FBi Social has proven that Sydney can sustain, and indeed embraces, more music venues. We think FBi Social has an important role to play as a smaller capacity, intimate space for emerging bands in Sydney”.

Currently booking Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, FBI says that it will look to book more nights including Sundays and one off events. Across the 12 week trial the venue has hosted the likes of Jack Ladder, Bleeding Knees Club and Dappled Cities, with frequent queues to get in showing that there is still a strong market for live music in Sydney.
