Direct from Madrid, Spain, the legendary Los Coronas are bringing their mix of Spanish melodies, their take on the 60s Californian surf sound, blended with a heavy dose of Spaghetti Western echoes to Woodford Folk Festival, Pyramid Rock Festival, Sydney Festival, Mona Foma and a bunch of smaller side shows this New Year and beyond.

David Krahe from the band let us in on his cooking secrets, what music he likes to listen to when he cooks and his thoughts on food and sex….

What were your food influences when you were growing up and what kind of food did you eat at home or with your family?

In Spain we call it “Puchero Food”, I think it would be something like “stewed food”, I try to keep the tradition alive with my children but it happens the same way when I play a Kinks record on the turntable, they look into my eyes with astonished faces.

What music do you play when you’re cooking?

Of course it depends on the food, I think Spanish tomatoes must be cooked while Ricky Nelson or Roy Orbison are singing, but if you’re cutting the tomato for a salad or a Gazpacho try with The Celibate Rifles.

If you were throwing a dinner party and could invite any musicians, living or dead, who would they be and why?

They’d probably be great musicians (but also junkies) like Johnny Thunders, Camarón de la Isla and Keith Richards. Heroin stops you feeling hungry, so we would spend time cooking and gain time playing.

What type of food do you make sure to avoid before a gig or going on stage?

The matter’s not the food but the amount of food when you are going on stage. You don’t want to be sick and spoil the gig.

Imagine for a second you can request anything on your rider at Pyramid Rock, What food do you put on it?

Ceviche, it’s a fish dish from Central America or the north part of South America. It’s amazing!

What has been your biggest cooking disaster to date?

Take care if you have sex just after touching or eating spicy food. It’s not necessary to be more eloquent…

When you tour overseas, what food from home do you miss the most?

Iberian Ham or salmorejo, it’s a tomato cream similar to gazpacho but thicker and a little bit stronger.

Where’s your favourite music venue to eat at?

Kafe Antzokia in Bilbao (Spain), White Trash in Berlin or The Congress in Tucson are great.

This is your last day on earth, what would your final choice of  dessert be eat?

As I’m sure this question has nothing to do with sex, for my girlfriend I’ll ask for a Banana Split listening to The Dickies and I’ll try Peaches and Cream listening the Ikettes.
