Boogie Festival happened over the Easter long weekend and now in its eighth year, this boutique festival situated at Bruzzy’s Farm in the small country Victorian town of Tallarook has become one of this nation’s favourite gatherings.

Whether you missed out on tickets and are suffering with some serious FOMO, or made it along and are now battling post-Boogie depression, we’ve got you covered with the Boogie 8 report, as written by some of the acts that featured on this year’s lineup. Take it away, musos!

Highs = Best moment
Lows = Worst/ toughest moment
Who Killed It = Best set of the weekend

The Ocean Party

High:
“On the Saturday night after the bands finished there was this stick party on the hill by the DJ stage. It reminded me a lot of California in the ’70s.”
Low:
“Pissing my pants while waiting for a toilet.”
Who Killed It?
“Day Ravies, Peter Bibby, Teeth and Tongue, Batpiss, Pond.”

Bloods

High:
“Boxwars sending all the kids and adults into a cardboard frenzy was pretty amazing to watch! A bunch of people in makeshift cardboard robot outfits, it was like being in geek heaven.
Walking into the clubhouse just when the DJ dropped ‘That’s Amore’ to which everyone responded by standing on top if the tables and singing at the top if their lungs was also trés exhilarating.”
Low:
“Seeing Boxwars destroy the giant cardboard tank they’d obviously spent an insane amount of hours crafting! Heartbreaking, but also totally awesome. It was so big that it had a dude playing a cardboard drum kit on the back and a guy with a cardboard guitar on the front! Both instruments were also destroyed in the war.”
Who Killed It?
“So many excellent bands and moments. Bad//Dreems and Pond were pretty amazing as always. What can’t those guys do?!”

BAD//DREEMS

High:
“Gary Clarke Jr playing 15 minute guitar solos. Batpiss played a banging set. Meeting Bronwyn from the Tallarook pub…”
Low:
“Missing the speed dating, and sleeping on rocky incline..”
Who Killed It?
“The organisers of Boogie …best fucking festival ever.”

Stella Angelico

High:
“Best moment for me at Boogie was being on stage on Saturday night singing ‘No Man Is An Island’ to a beautiful sea of good people. Electric.”
Low:
“Trying to sleep in a van when it was one degree Celsius.”
Who Killed It?
“Saint Jude. Absolutely transcendent! So warm and so much fun too. They had a choir and a sitar! Loved it. Lindi Ortega is absolutely captivating too. Her and Gary Clarke Junior were favourites for me.”

Teeth And Tongue

High:
Jess: “Looking out into that beautiful crowd and seeing the half-naked, face-paint-wearing feathered men and women dancing up a dust storm in the front. Also the Twin Peaks-esque lodge once the sun went down: so cosy, so sangria-y.”
Jade: “Playing with Teeth & Tongue. Running out of ‘Boogie Bucks’ on the last morning but then having about 10 different people donate their spare change to me to buy a long black. An Oliver Twist moment. THERE WAS A LODGE THAT LOOKED LIKE THE LODGE IN TWIN PEAKS.”
Low:
Jess: “The unbelievably freezing nights in the tent, particularly Saturday. I thought I was prepared; I wasn’t. But, kudos must got to the local CFA who kept the giant bonfires burning with remarkable intensity. We should have slept down there. ”
Jade: “Looking like George Costanza wearing his Gortex jacket. It was cold, okay! Mixing antibiotics and Codral with straight whiskey and espresso martinis.”
Who Killed It?
Jess: “I didn’t really expect to enjoy Stella Angelico so much, but she was full-on and so mesmerising. Batpiss were great, intense in a completely different way, and I have to say that Lindi Ortega totally won me over too.”
Jade: “The Ocean Party #babes. The Hula Hoop Girl at the Hillbilly Stage”

The Frowning Clouds

High:
“Probably when we went for a bush walk up into the hills and found heaps of skeletons and rocks then we just had a mini rampage and smashed heaps of big rocks and skulls.”
Low:
“It wasn’t really a low point because it was funny as but when Harmer our drummer was super pissed and started getting rowdy with CFA volunteers at the bonfire asking what CFA stands for haha they didn’t see the funny side.”
Who Killed It:
“The most killer set was maybe Pond but we spent too much time at our camp so we didn’t get to see everybody”
