With a mere trio of singles under their belt Client Liaison have already accomplished an awful lot.

The 2012 debut single and ode to 20th Century Australian cultural iconography ‘End Of The Earth‘ set in motion a year of live successes punctuated by the closing set at Golden Plains 2013 which saw them bring the elegance and sophistication of the business world to the Supernatural Amphitheatre, portable fax machine and all.

In 2014 Client Liaison have gifted us with ‘Free of Fear’, produced by the duo and mixed by Cameron Parkin aka Shazam (Elizabeth Rose, Owl Eyes). The equally danceable B-side to ‘Free of Fear’ titled ‘That’s Desire’ reveals yet another level of Client Liaison’s musical talents in the form of a throbbing 90s dance track.

The duo are about to embark on their debut national tour, and in celebration they’ve released a 12” Free Of Fear vinyl featuring remixes by Knightlife and Com Truise.

Seeing that Client Liaison wear their national pride on the sleeves, we asked the boys to list the most iconic Australian music moments. Prepare yourself for a pretty hefty dose of cultural cringe.

Regurgitator And Channel [V]’s Jabba Do ‘
Band in a Bubble’

In 2004 Paul Curtis of Vale Records and Channel [V] (XYZ Productions) set upon the construction of a biosphere bubble at Melbourne’s Federation Square to which would see through the recording of Melbourne band Regurgitator’s third album Mish Mash.

Confined to the bubble for 30 days and broadcast live 24hrs a day on the Foxtel Pay TV subscription service, quality TV ensued as long time Channel [V] presenter ‘Jabba’ was also confined to the bubble. Upon the 30th day and still confined to the bubble, Regurgitator preformed their freshly recorded album to a packed crowd at Melbourne’s Federation Square soon after which they were released back into society.

John Farnham Performs ‘Age of Reason’ At Melbourne’s Commonwealth Games 2006

Who could possibly overlook the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games? Sure Sydney’s 2000 Olympic opening ceremony spectacularly demarcated itself as one of the greatest musical extravaganzas in Australian history, yet time after time Australians seem to neglect the fact that on that fateful night at Homebush Stadium, John Farnham did not deliver one of his many hits. Instead Farnham opted for a rather lackluster duet with Olivia Newton-John to what was an insufferably lame song.

Six years later, without warning, Farnham rose from a hydraulic rigged stage at Melbourne’s Commonwealth Games opening ceremony bearing an offering from which Australia had been robbed of back in 2000 – a smash hit!

Vanessa Amorosi For Ansett

Like a terminally ill patient requesting their favourite song to be played at their funeral, Ansett Australia’s decision to use Vanessa Amorosi’s 2000 smash hit ‘Shine’ in their last ever advertisement campaign was the only cushioning support for those morning the airline’s downfall in 2001. The TV commercial featured Amorosi alongside an array of Aussie A-listers including the likes of Who Dares Wins co-host Tania Zaetta and Australian fast paced bowler Brett Lee.

All in all this is a great ad, a great airline and a great moment in Australian music.

Daniel Johns Misses The Mark

In keeping with the theme of aviation, we’ve decided to invert the premise of this “Top 7” in an effort to bring attention to one of the most ‘Un-Australian’ moments in our short musical history. One can look no further than Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns and his woeful attempt at reinventing the much loved Qantas ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ song.

Johns really missed the mark on this one and we’re pretty sure he’s well aware of it. In fact we’d go as far to say that Daniel Johns is single handedly responsible for the current economic hardship Qantas is facing. Conceding that the downfall of Qantas is inevitable, there is no doubt in our mind that historians will signal John’s collaboration with Qantas as the foreboding catalyst that buried Australia’s last remaining major Airline. Lets just keep our fingers crossed that Johns doesn’t end up redesigning the beloved Qantas business class pajamas.

Michael Gudinski Honoured On Billboard’s ‘International Power Players’ List

If you haven’t guessed by now, we love Michael Gudinski!

Conveniently fitting into what we commonly describe as the ‘Client Liaison sentiment’, Gudinski embodies the core principals which make up a high-flying Aussie icon. From wheeling deals with expatriate Rupert Murdoch to a consistent display of fashion forwardness (namely via his commitment to colourful suit jackets during the 80’s and 90’s). In turn we congratulate Gudinski on making the cut on the Billboard’s ‘International Power Players’ list – February 2014 – a truly proud moment in Australian music!

John Williamson’s Revised ‘Steve Irwin’ Rendition Of His Hit song ‘True Blue’

Nearly eight years ago Williamson gave the performance of a lifetime by honoring the late Steve Irwin in song during Irwin’s Funeral held at Australia Zoo’s Crocoseum.

This heart wrenching performance was accompanied by a team of Australia Zoo wildlife keepers packing up Irwin’s swag and loading it onto a ute, there by symbolising Irwin’s departure from Wild Life conservation into the afterlife. In this instance Williamson demonstrated a degree of strength and courage unrivalled by any Australian musician to date.
