We’d like to know a little bit about you for our files, however we don’t like regurgitating press releases or asking the easy questions. No-one gets out of the Tone Deaf Interrogation lightly, so just hold still, grit your teeth, clench your buttocks and be still while we put on the rubber gloves, apply the thumbscrews, and pull out our thermometer while you open up and say ahhhhhhhhhhh… Truthful answers only or we drink your rider while you’re on stage.
Everyone joins or forms a band to get laid. If your band represents your sex life are you Casanova or spending plenty of time doing the five knuckle shuffle?
Wank… wank… root… wank… repeat.
We don’t want to know about the painfully hip bands your press release says you’re influenced by. Take us back to your bedroom when you were 14. What band posters did you have on the wall?
I think I was in a transition phase. It was a blend of Regurgitator and Magic Dirt posters combined with Kiss and Pat Benatar.
What’s been your worst gig and why are you glad there’s no footage of it on Youtube … yet?
That would have to be our first gig in Melbourne, our third gig overall. We had a nice little crowd turn up, certainly more than we deserved. We found out pretty early in the night that a few “big wigs” were there to see us and we didn’t handle it well. A few too many gin & drys and all co-ordination went missing. I can guarantee Jonesez will be an independent from now until the end.
Tomorrow’s payday, so we’ve only got $20 to get you drunk. Where do we go and what do we buy with it?
At the supermarket stock shelves at, the cask wine in the liquor aisle always goes out of date. I can get us a staff discount which will get us a cask each for two dollars. We then make our way over to Mad Kebabs and say g’day to old mate Sol and his lovely wife, they will make us two of Melbournes finest kebabs. We can eat in too, sort of. It’s a servo Kebab caravan but they do have a few chairs and tables
We’ve been looking in the $2 bin at Dixons Recycled and also bidding on eBay – what releases are we looking for there that your band has put out?
Jonesez – Betty’s Soup. It’s my debut album that came out just last week, so it should be there by now.
Suppose we put a gun to your head and force you to kiss a member of another Australian band. Who, which band and why?
Luke, who plays bass for Sydney band The Retreat.
Jonesez debut album, Betty’s Soup, has finally hit the shelves! Fans can still get their hands on a digital copy of the album via the website – www.jonesez.com.au – and there are plenty of tantalising “all you can eat” packages to get your hands on there too!
Betty’s Soup will officially be dished up to Melburnians on September 11th at the Birmingham Hotel, with special guests, The Statics and Viking Frontier, joining the line-up for a night of pure, unadulterated rock bliss. Blunt Mag called it a “fuzzed out slacker rock party – think Pavement, Lemonheads and, at the heavy end, Nirvana….The result spells a big win for the listener”.
Betty’s Soup is out now at all the usual outlets. Album launch is Saturday, September 11th at the Birmingham Hotel, Fitzroy. Don’t miss out! We’ve got two plus ones to have your name and a guest on the door – send us a funny email to competitions @tonedeaf.com.au and we’ll notify the winners by Friday midday.
