We’d like to know a little bit about you for our files, but we don’t like regurgitating press releases or asking the easy questions. No-one gets out of the Tone Deaf Interrogation lightly, so just hold still, grit your teeth, clench your buttocks and be still while we put on the rubber gloves, apply the thumbscrews, and pull out our thermometer while you open up and say ahhhhhhhhhhh… Truthful answers only or we drink your rider while you’re on stage.

Everyone joins or forms a band to get laid. Are you the ultimate groupie conquest or are you spending plenty of time by yourself with a box of tissues?

Making music can be an emotional journey for some people..so a box of tissues comes in handy for mopping up the tears.

We don’t want to know about the bands your press release says you’re influenced by. Take us back to your bedroom when you were 14. What band posters did you have on the wall?

David Bowie..all around the walls and all through the decades..his decades.

What’s been your worst gig and why are you glad there’s no footage of it on Youtube … yet?

The worst gig was at Sonar 2010. People were shouting “shit” and “fuck off”. People who stand in the anonymity of  a crowd and shout up criticisms are weak, unfulfilled people who have never took the time to consider the difficulties of creating art work.

Tomorrow’s payday, so we’ve only got $A20/$US18/£14/€10 to get you drunk. Where do we go and what do we buy with it?

2 bottles of  white wine from New South Wales (honest)..bought from the CO-OP. Then up to the Gibbet in Hungerford, Berkshire, to watch the stars with no light pollution and get spooked by pheasants moving in the shrubs.

What releases have you put out? Are they million sellers or do you still have a few boxes of them sitting gathering dust under your bed?

Work and Non Work (1997)

The Noise Made by People (2000)

Haha Sound (2003)

Microtronics Vol 1 (2003)

Tender buttons  (2005)

Microtronics Vol 2 (2005)

Future Crayon (2006)

Broadcast and The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age (2009)

Mother is the Milky Way (2009)

Familiar Shapes and Noises (2010)

We play around with popular forms far too much to sell loads of records. I’d say combining all the sales of all of our releases would only equal 150, 000 sales…maybe a bit more but not much more.

Suppose we put a gun to your head and force you to kiss a member of another band. Who, which band and why?

No gun needed. Put your limited and flawed reasoning devices back in that safe and locked cupboard. It would be Uncle Bulgaria from the Wombles! Because he is a vegetarian and cares about pollution and compassion in world farming.

You’re touring Australia. We know how much visitors are afraid of our native animals, so what is your greatest fear? Getting attacked by a) a snake b) a red back spider c) a bluebottle jellyfish d) a crocodile or e) a venomous drop bear?

I have a recurring nightmare about Zoo animals running wild in towns and villages…through streets and houses and then into my kitchen. The one dream I remember clearly involved a rhinoceros. I hid under the Kitchen table and tried to keep very still. It walk passed me and into the back garden. Maybe my next  dream will involve a kangaroo hopping into my kitchen…seems not so scary somehow..but then I did hear about the man who was disembowelled by a male kangaroo for feeding a female kangaroo some chips…I’m mean, I like chips as much as the next man but that’s just plain possessive.
