With so much new music floating around the interwebs, sometimes it’s hard to dig a little deeper and find out more about a promising artist.

That’s why The Profile is breaking it down for you. The Pitch takes care of the nitty gritty factual bits, The Plot serves as a Q & A with the artist, and The Plug is where you can go for more.

The Pitch

Infinity Broke is a new project featuring Jamie Hutchings and Jared Harrison of Bluebottle Kiss fame as well as Jamie’s brother Scott and long-term bassist Reuben Wills.

While all four members have played in various incarnations of Jamie’s solo work (most notably on Avalon Cassettes) Infinity Broke sees the band paint with clubs more often than brushes. Scott and Jared pummel out Kraut-Rock friendly rhythms on drums and assorted percussion beneath Wills soulful bass playing, creating a hypnotic yet bloody canvas.
Answers by Jamie Hutchings.

The Plot

Hometown: “Sydney. We’re divided between the Eastern Suburbs, Inner West and North Shore. Our music is kind of Sydney-centric. There’s some inner city grime, with the use of industrial strength percussion, feedback etc but some parts are open and kind of hypnotic. Much like our fair city.”

Influences: “Some things I’m into at moment are:
Betty Lavette – ‘Let Me Down Easy’
The Apartments – ‘Thank You for Making Me Beg
The 1989 novel The Melancholy of Resistance by Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai and the film The Year My Voice Broke (1987) which was written and directed by John Duigan and starring Noah Taylor, Loene Carmen, and Ben Mendelsohn.”

First Song You Ever Wrote: “‘Lost Weekend’. It ended up on the first Bluebottle Kiss tape.

Favourite Local Act: “It’s probably still Crow, they’ve been my favourite local act since around 1993. There’s a great new band called Golden Blonde who played with us recently too, kind of glitchy Liars type stuff, well worth checking out.”

Favourite Local Venue: “The Factory Floor where we’re doing our Sydney launch is a great venue I reckon.”

Dream collaboration: “Steven Spielberg on lead vocals, Kenny G on drums, Joe Satriani on acoustic guitar, Steven King on Bass , Keith Urban on sax, and me on … can I just watch?”

Dream Rider: “Food.”

Bets Gig You’ve Ever Been To: “I don’t know really…seeing Pavement reform was pretty special. I felt like a baby boomer Eagles fan at the Entertainment Centre or something. Oh youth!”

Venue or Festival You’d Love To Play: “Can we play at the Opera House?”
