We are Valentiine – Vanessa on guitar/vocals, Erica on bass/vocals and Shelly on the Drums

You did a tour of the UK and some of Europe last year, how did it go?

It was an insanely intense crazy quick and fun all at the same time. It was good to see an amazing part of the world and being able to do what we love at the same time. We met a few incredible people and played over 22 shows so it was a blast, I think we are still recovering :S

Who has the worst habit on the road?

Hmmmm…that’s a tough one… I don’t think we can pin that on just one of us, we are all pretty eccentric.

Your second album Swell is due out this year, what can we expect?

A bit of a louder album compared to our first one. And I think the songs are a bit more diverse and poppier at times… but that’s if we can afford to finish it since we are still trying to get back on our feet since coming back from our overseas adventure.

Do you prefer playing live or getting into the studio?

Live for sure! It’s spontaneous and exciting because each show is different. It’s the high you can’t buy ;)

What’s your earliest memory of performing and who inspired you to start?

Our first show was at a place called ‘Barbukka’. It was on Smith Street, and now it’s a clothes shop. But I remember the owner saying you won’t have any people, I cant afford to put you on a Saturday night and so we got a Thursday, but, when the people kept on coming in and we were playing live together as a unit, it felt pretty effing satisfying.
So many different people inspired each one of us, we always liked the idea of being a part of a supportive community with like-minded people and making music together like it was back in the day.

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What and where was the first gig you went to?

When Erica was a kid she would go and watch her dad’s band play and they were called ‘Dog Food’.

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

We usually save our ritual for after the show by getting bad food, sitting down and debriefing about the show.

When you’re Rolling Stones Big, what are you going to request on your rider: don’t be shy. We want specifics!

haha….. Well: milk, malteasers, coffee (not instant) tea, pop tarts, strawberries and cream lollies, pumpkin cake, some vegetables (not over cooked) anything from Lord of the fries, a playstation with Mortal Combat and Tony Hawk, oh and some beer, wine, cheese and olives AND a jumping castle. We don’t ask for much J

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with?

We would have to say Adalita Srsen. We think she has a really amazing writing style and it would be interesting to see what we could make together. She is also a lovely person so it would also be a major honour.

Why should people come and check you out at A Day By The Green on Saturday 12th January?

Because we will love you forever and ever and give you our riders!
No, just because it will be a day full of great bands and the vibe is really good and chilled and its fun.

Where we can see you play next, what releases do you have available and where can we get them?

You are all invited to come to Jakarta if you want? We have been asked to play a festival called “ROCKOTORFEST” in Indonesia in March.
We have a few singles available – Chucky, Animal, When You Want, LoveLike on a split 7inch and our self-titled album. Most should be available at Thornbury Records and Greville Street records but if there is none there because they have sold out like hot cakes you can order anything from our website: www.valentiine.com/valentiine.cfm
