Thanks Tone Deaf!

Tom Lyngcoln / Harmony

What’s your earliest memory of performing and who inspired you to start?

Being murmured off stage after ballsing up my final piano recital is a pretty clear memory. I got heavily into punk rock shortly there after. That was close to 25 years ago so I attest to fury over accuracy school of music.

What the first gig you remember purchasing a ticket with your own cold hard earned cash?

Fugazi in 1993 at the Hellenic Hall in North Hobart. Fugazi were almost upstaged by locals Little Ugly Girls and Mouth. My ears rang for 4 days after that show.

Almost all the Harmony members have played in other bands, how did you all finally come together as one?

Social engineering. No really it was a simple filling out of the standard application to engage in musical activity forms. And once it was all union approved and a few nagging wage issues were resolved, the merger came together considerably quickly. Obviously the shareholders were reasonably happy with the outcome given the current instability in the market.

Tell us about the recording process of your forthcoming album, we want all the inside information….

I did it…at my house. Like the self-titled debut, the process was the same with Alex and I putting down the guitar and drums live and then adding the rest of the band when time allowed. It was recorded and mixed at our house at Windsor and at various other locations when neighbours complained.

This record features only the band bar the opening piece performed by the great Don Walker. Technically there will be another 14 special guests as a part of a bonus download that will come with the album but that’s all still being finalised.

As you were recently chosen by The Drones to play ATP, if you could curate your own festival, where would it be, who would you invite to play, and what features would it have?

West Hobart Skate Bowl and fill it with sharks. That would be the priority. If there was any money left over it would be thrust upon the list of people I haven’t seen yet: Tom Waits, Reigning Sound, Jonathan Richman, Cheater Slicks, Alan Vega, Dion etc. From that point we would invest in reanimation and dig up Jimi Hendrix, Roy Orbison, Odetta, GG Allin and Pig Champion for a Poison Idea reunion.

As everyone seems to be doing it these days, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with?

Well we have been fortunate enough to collaborate with our first choice for our new record Carpetbombing. Don Walker opens the album in harrowing fashion

What’s Harmony’s music the best soundtrack for?

Eating carbs. Perfect for post carbs guilt too.

You’re launching your limited edition 7” ‘Do Me A Favour’ at The John Curtain on Friday 5th April, should we expect to hear any new songs off your forthcoming album?

Yes we have a few new songs to play but there will be plenty of classics too. Obscure classics.
