Japan’s Fuji Rock festival has long been used as a way to gauge which bands may or may not be coming to Australia for Splendour In The Grass. The festivals are usually held in quite close proximity, in this case, they’re a week apart, so it’s usually pretty easy to speculate as to which bands may or may not be making their way to Australia around that time of year.

While Fuji Rock had already announced a number of bands this year that are also coming to Australia for Splendour, such as LCD Soundsystem, Queens Of The Stone Age, and The xx, the festival also scored Aphex Twin and Björk as the headliners. Now, they’ve added Gorillaz into the mix, fuelling speculation as to whether the English group’s comeback may involve a stop in Australia at some point.

Considering that Gorillaz have so far only announced two other shows this year, including their own ‘Demon Dayz’ festival in the UK in June, and a show in Canada, their schedule is wide open for Damon Albarn and his group of co-conspirators to make a stop on our shores. However, it looks like we’ll just have to keep on waiting to see what eventuates.

Other acts to have been announced for Fuji Rock 2017 include Ron Sexsmith, Death Grips, Day Wave, and our own local lads, Jet, whose reformation has so far seen them support Bruce Springsteen, and play a killer pub show in Melbourne earlier this year.
