Dashboard Confessional are best known as the band that played in your head as your high school crush told you she couldn’t see you guys ending up together.

Well, today that memory is about to be pushed to the forefront of your mind again (sorry) as Chris Carrabba and co. released a surprise EP ‘Covered +Taped’, featuring four covers: Julien Baker’s ‘Sprained Ankle’, Sorority Noise’s ‘Using’, and – more oddly – Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ and The 1975’s ‘Sex’.

Explain yourself, Carrabba!

“I love covering great songs by great artists. These are some songs I feel very connected to right now”, he said in a statement. “Enough so that I felt I had a way of making them my own in some small way.”

Okay, then. Give the EP a listen, via Spotify.
