Last week, Newtown’s favourite sons, DMA’s, entered the triple j studios to lay down a spectacular cover of Cher’s classic dance-pop tune ‘Believe’ for Like A Version. Their tender acoustic take on the track received rave reviews.

Now, another beloved Sydney act, The Jezabels, have taken on another one of Newtown’s finest. The ‘Pleasure Drive’ hit-makers hit the airwaves this morning with a understated and retro-sounding cover of Sticky Fingers’ ‘If You Go’.

The Jezabels stripped the song back, scaling back its Madchester-Britpop vibes and the psychedelic swirls of reverb and replaced it with sparse electronic beats and metallic guitar, reminiscent of ’80s New Wave or something from the Drive soundtrack.

Not too long ago we ran through a few of our favourite Like A Version covers of the year so far, including Sarah Blasko’s incredible David Bowie cover, Guy Sebastian linking up with Paces, and Hey Geronimo mashing up Courtney Barnett and Regurgitator.
