You’d be forgiven for having missed this during all the Xmas cheer, but on Friday, Nine Inch Nails released an EP Not the Actual Events, the first new release under the NIN moniker since 2013’s Hesitation Marks.
The EP features Dave Grohl on drums, on the brutal-sounding ‘The Idea Of You’, as well as Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction/RHCP fame, adding guitar to ‘Burning Bright (Field on Fire)’.
Reznor said of the new record: “It’s an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make. It’s an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story.”
Listen to Grohl drumming below, on the EP’s third track ‘The Idea Of You’ – it doesn’t sound a million miles from Grohl’s 2004 metal project Probot to be honest (which is a good thing).
