Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, is planning on bowing out from the hip-hop game, but before he departs he has a lot of things still left on his to-do list. With two full-length projects on the horizon, the rapper apparently has a collaboration with our very own Tame Impala under his sleeve.

As SPIN reports, Bey made a surprise appearance at Boiler Room in Miami and fellow rapper and poet Saul Williams’s In Appreciation of Lyricism concert at Art Basel over the weekend, during which he premiered a selection of new material. At about 5:14:00 in the very lengthy video below, you can hear part of his new Tame Impala collab.

Speaking recently to NME, the in-demand leader of Tame Impala, Kevin Parker, hinted at having more superstar collabs in the works. “There’s definitely a few other things coming up. You don’t have to be switched on to realise that if I do this, and then this happens… it’s just the way the music world works, you know?” he said. “So there’s going to be other things happening, but I think I’d be ruining it if I mentioned who.”

Meanwhile, SPIN reports Bey has a new solo record on the way, a follow-up to 2009’s highly acclaimed The Ecstatic, as well as a collaboration with legendary New Orleans producer Mannie Fresh. “I will be premiering my new album, Negus In Natural Person, and me and Mannie Fresh’s project, which is called As Promised, at The Apollo on December 21,” said Bey.
