Continuing on his path post-Nine Inch Nails of scoring hollywood films, former frontman Trent Reznor has finally released his cover of Led Zeppelin classic ‘Immigrant Song’ which he recorded for upcoming film ‘Girl With A Dragon Tattoo’. The track features vocals by Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O and also contains contributions from Atticus Ross. This is the second film soundtrack Reznor has tackled, his first foray being for ‘The Social Network’ for which he won an Oscar.

Part of the track was leaked a few months ago after the audio of a trailer that started playing in the cinemas was bootlegged, but now hearing the proper version you can tell that a lot of the nuiances in this track were missing from the leak.

Immigrant Song – Karen O with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross by Fluke Hawkins

The industrial sound we’ve all come to love from Reznor is alive and well in this cover and suits the song surprisingly well. ‘Immigrant Song’ was always one of Led Zeppelins higher energy tracks and the translation from heavy guitar to digital sounds is almost seamless.

Karen O’s vocals also deliver a sound that captures a similar feel to original vocalist Robert Plants version, but with a more modern twinge that is married well to what Reznor delivers. Is it possible that this version is actually comparable to the classic? That’s a huge call. But this is one of the better covers delivered over the last few years.
