Port Macquarie’s Festival of The Sun’s first line-up announcement is out! The festival takes place at Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park December 14th & 15th. We’re super excited about the first round of acts announced and with tickets now on sale, so we’ve put together a little playlist of some of the acts that we think you should definitely check out at the festival.
The Datsuns – Gods Are Bored
A very welcome return for New Zealand’s The Datsuns. ’Gods Are Bored’ is the opening track from the forthcoming Datsuns LP ‘Death Rattle Boogie’, due for release 5th October. Recorded in Sweden at lead singer Dolf De Borst’s Gutterview studios, these guys still ooze some much rock goodness with a touch of psychedelia! Big pounding drums and guitar feedback that opens into a killer chorus ”you know the gods, yeah the gods are so bored, we entertain with our lives and applause“. The Datsuns are back!
Hermitude – Hyperparadise
With a kickass opening beat and samples to boot, the NSW-based hip-hop duo Hermitude are giving us more great tracks for the warmer months. Rife with synth beats, fun percussion and even a flute, ‘HyperParadise’ off the album of the same name that was released earlier this year, is as contagiously catchy as it is fun. Chuck this one on the next time a party is dying, it’s sure to get everyone happy and moving.
Husky – Tidal Wave
The catchy and curious opening track from Husky’s hit debut album, Forever So, is the perfect warm up tune for the impending Port Macquarie-based festival. Complete with band hum-a-longs, a bit of banjo and some imaginitive lyrics, “Tidal Wave” brings a barrage of influences together for some summery relaxation.
DZ Deathrays – Dollar Chills
Its been a massive year for DZ Deathrays, performing UK’s Reading and Leeds festivals amongst other European festival slots. ‘Dollar Chills’ is taken from the band’s debut killer album and one Tone Deaf’s favourite releases for 2012, “Bloodstreams”. The track doesn’t disappoint DZ fans, although more laid back than other tracks, but still garage perfection with the DZ trademark screams. Definitely one of the bands to watch at Festival of The Sun 2012.
Nat Col & The Kings – Coming Home
Through a mesh of punk rock and blues and roots, Nat Col and The Kings release the first single from their anticipated third EP, “III”. The loved-up lyrics may not initially tug at the heartstrings, but pair it with the lost gorilla man from the accompanying film clip and the whole package comes together for a beautifully happy ending.
Tin Sparrow – Azzuro
Sydney band Tin Sparrow are back with more happy folky jams. Their latest offering ‘Azzuro’ is a perfect example of how complimentary male/female vocals can no only work wonderfully, but can make a song. Lead singer Matt Amery’s smooth vocals are beautifully complimented by bandmate Sonja Van Hummel’s feminine syrupy stylings.. Having just been announced to play Festival Of The Sun in December, it looks like we’ve got a lot to look forward to from the four-piece.
