Critically acclaimed Australian singer/songwriter Mikelangelo is back and sounding better than ever with his new band The Tin Star. Releasing their debut LP The Surf n’ Western Sounds of Mikelangelo and The Tin Star in June of this year to absolutely outstanding reviews, this band seems to have already created quite the niche for itself in the local music scene with its unique infusion of surf n’ western (as you may guess from the title of the album).

Action (Is My Middle Name) by tonedeaf

Lead track ‘Action (Is My Middle Name)’ starts out with the perfect mix of sexy, swoon-worthy guitars and low, raw vocals. Mikelangelo’s voice can be compared to Nick Cave and other singers of the like, its haunting tone being a stand out on this track. The instrumentation creates a fantastically nostalgic feel, recalling the much missed Spaghetti Western soundtracks, as well as echoes of various surf artists, including Dick Dale and The Beach Boys, much like their contemporaries Spindrift. The track changes between the sweltering and drawn out verses and the more uptempo chorus seamlessly, and makes for a perfect introduction to a perfect first release.
