Canberra-come-Brisbane based Fox & Fowl have just released their debut self-titled EP on April 18 through MGM.

Recorded at Airlock Studios in Brisbane by Yanto Browning (Art of Sleeping, The Medics, The Jungle Giants), ‘Fox & Fowl’ is a 4-track EP that encapsulates the journey had by the band while studying in Canberra, traveling the Americas, then relocating to the Sunshine State. Each track is laced with insight into the adventures of the five country boys, and the resulting tracks are an upbeat and uplifting collection of stories.

We asked the band to give us a run down on each of the tracks from this incredibly exciting debut.

Jungle Punch

“Is the second single from Fox & Fowl’s debut EP. The song was written about the intoxicating influence held by the sand islands of Belize and the Caribbean party atmosphere that greeted us upon arrival. Beach side bars that ran into pristine waters, sailing trips to remote reefs and cups that continually flowed to bursting with ‘Jungle Punch’, had us swimming in a paradise we hadn’t known existed. If it wasn’t for Lach’s foray into small arms dealing and a drugs charge we’d probably still be there.”

Pilot

“Written by Lachlan Smart and Mitchell Gardoll early in 2011, is not quite your classic boy meets girl story. Based on a night where a young man finds himself being torn between the lust of two beautiful women, ‘Pilot’ is a factual recount that traverses the highs and lows of star stuck lovers. As one can amass the term ‘Pilot the flight’ means to take control, a concept not yet know by the young man in case. Unaware of the conundrum he has placed himself in by encouraging the affections of two woman ‘Pilot’ tells the story of a young mans coming of age, learning of lessons and taking of more than just the wheel….”

Neon Colours

“Was written about a ‘trip’ we took whilst in Whistler on our respective post uni adventures. Perched on an abandoned cat-track, overviewing the pristine Whistler mountain ranges, we watched one of the most amazing transformations of light and colour any of us had ever seen. For hours we watched the sky consume the land below in an awe inspiring natural display that left us with a new perspective and adoration of the environment around us. It wasn’t until later that night that we realized that our experience had coincided with our grad ceremonies back in Oz and that the person we’d thought was Elliot was actually a cat.”

Bird on a Wire

“This track was written not long after we made the move to Brisbane and recounts our first impressions on the move to the big smoke together. Some certain neighbours (whom since have been removed) made the transition very interesting and provided much ‘light’ entertainment to get us settled in. * Note: Be weary when borrowing a cup of sugar from the Neighbours.”
