How’s this for a super match-up? Aussie dance majors The Presets remixing a Kylie Minogue track, written for the pop princess by producer Pharrell Williams.

‘I Was Gonna Cancel’, the latest single to be lifted from Kylie’s 12th studio album Kiss Me Once, is originally a slice of Daft Punk disco penned by Pharrell, but The Presets have tossed out most of the retro-funk skeleton and replaced it with a deep trance vibe. The brooding synths and dancefloor filling beats have all the hallmarks of the Groovin The Moo-bound duo but with the added bonus of Kylie’s distinctive vixen vocals.

The remix came about following Minogue personally handpicking The Presets’ Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes to DJ an intimate gig at the Beresford Hotel in Sydney this past February, as Noise 11 points out. “We have always had the utmost respect for Kylie as a pop star and an Australian Icon,” said the pair in a statement, adding that agreeing to the remix “was a no brainer.”

In support of Kiss Me Once, her first new record since splitting from long-term manager Terry Blamey, Kylie Minogue has been performing a series of one-off intimate ‘secret’ shows in her adopted home of UK (as The Quietus report) and here in Australia. The latest set to be an exclusive show for iHeartRadio in Melbourne with details to be announced on Melbourne’s Mix101.1 radio.
