The Avalanches have shared an outtake from their elongated Wildflower sessions.

Two different mixes of ‘Bad Day’, featuring Freddie Gibbs, have been released on the group’s SoundCloud: the top version appears to be the most complete, with a longer running time, better production, and a Stevie Wonder sample – quite possibly the reason the song wasn’t included on the 22-track album. (Hopefully SoundCloud’s recent copyright deal regarding uncleared samples and mixes means these tracks will remain on the platform.)

As befitting The Avalanches’ reputation for tardiness, the track is labelled, “A Christmas jam for you all”, yet arrived online close to a week late. We wouldn’t have it any other day, to be honest.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a flood of unreleased tracks from Wildflower; considering the 16-year gestation period, we imagine there are still quite a few amazing outtakes that we are yet to hear.
