Amongst all the big-name announcements for the summer festival season (Re: Falls Festival, Big Day Out, Harvest et al.), one of Australia’s most beloved figures let slip with naught but two acts for this year’s edition of one of Australia’s major festival contenders.

The benevolent Aunty Meredith has already played a hand of two very special acts, with both the futurist pop of GRIMES and Australian icons THE SUNNYBOYS confirmed in the first lineup announcement. This morning, it’s time to get excited, because here comes a whole lot more of Meredith Music Festvial’s musical deck.

The aces up her sleeve? Well, that’ll be PRIMAL SCREAM, who Aunty Meredith promise will deliver a “verrrrry special Satdee Nite Happening amongst the Ghost Gums and giant Cypress Pines.” We’re inclined to agree, and though Bobby Gillespie and his noise hedonists haven’t had any new material in a while, they always put on a debaucherous live show.

The UK are throwing another Jack of Spades our way in the form of SPIRITUALIZED, the moniker for one Jason ‘Spaceman’ Pierce, who’ll no doubt be delivering a selection of his pioneering space rock catalogue, including this year’s Sweet Heart Sweet Light, in a lazer-guided spectactle.

As is often the case with Meredith, there’s a winning range of diverse acts dotted across the remainder of the bill; including chilltronica maestro FOUR TET, Syrian party star OMAR SOULEYMAN, sax-fittin’ legend BIG JAY MCNEELY (now in his mid-80s), the legendary human beatbox RAHZEL & DJ JS-1, J.B. SMOOVE – aka Leon Black of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, San Diego’s rock rats HOT SNAKES, DJ YAMANTAKA EYE of Japanese experimental act The Boredoms and cosmic riders EARTHLESS.

Closer to home, we’ve got an equally strong royal flush of Australian acts. Including the retro-fitted delights of REGURGITATOR, music-as-sex auteur CHET FAKER, psychedlic outsiders POND, deputies of the Dunedin-revival THE TWERPS peerless soul revue SASKWATCH high school heroes SNAKADAKTAL, the rollicking TOOT TOOT TOOTS, exotic songstress BROUS, Pitchfork-baiting soul punks ROYAL HEADACHE and the CITY OF BALLARAT MUNICIPAL BRASS BAND for good measure.

Now in it’s twenty-first year, that impressive list of acts (and more) will be filling out three magical days in December at the famed Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre, along with the usual BYO, One-Stage-Fits-All and “No Dickhead Policy” and lack of commercial sponsors to spoil the picturesque surrounds.

Festival organisers have once again proudly promised will be “the same price as last year, which was the same price as the year before” with the use of the “world’s-best-practice facilities and amenities, a newly-curated Catering LineUp, plus new and improved campgrounds for More Space and Time.”

Namely a 3 day, 2 night ticket for $279 +b/f, using the same Subscriber Ticket Ballot system to ensure the majority of the tickets go to Subscribers before the rest go on public. While round one has already been drawn (with the results to hit inboxes today), round two is still available for those that enter the Ballot at www.mmf.com.au before 10pm Tuesday 21st August, with results drawn the next Thursday 23rd.
