New Queens Of The Stone Age Track Released

Are you excited? We are! Queens Of The Stone have left us hanging for years, 2007 to be precise, since their last record and we can’t wait to hear some new material from the band. But before you get too excited this isn’t the new record you’re looking for. That’s still a little bit off. Instead we’ve gotten our hands on a cover they’ve recorded for Amnesty International.

Back in October we filled you in on the rather bizarre charity project for an album of Bob Dylan covers called cryptically Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International.

The album features a wide variety of acts including Adele covering 1997′s “Make You Feel My Love”, Sting joining forces with Dave Matthews Band and My Morning Jacket to tackle on 1975′s “You’re a Big Girl Now”, and Patti Smith taking on “Drifter’s Escape”.

Since then a number of the singles have been leaking across the internet and this week we got our hands on Queens Of The Stone Age interpretation of Dylan classic ‘Outlaw Blues’. The Josh Homme fronted band have been busy working on their follow up to 2007′s Era Vulgaris and this track is the first time we’ve heard new material from the band in years.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Homme has indicated that the sound we hear in this Dylan cover was originally the direction the new record was taking but the band have changed course. “Doing the rehearsals for the first record is really defining the new one,” he said. “It’s been turning the new record into something else. What we were doing was kind of bluesy, and now it’s turned into this trancey, broken thing. The robots are back!”
