Motley Crue To Break Up?
They were the band that epitomised the excess of rock n roll in the 80s with stories of a frat house type lifestyle with countless girls and copious amounts of drugs.
But now Motley Crue, who just announced a three week long stint in Las Vegas where singer Vince Neil was charged with assault earlier this year, may be heading towards splitsville with Neil telling the Las Vegas Sun that he wants to pursue other interests.
The news comes after drummer Tommy Lee indicated earlier this year that he didn’t think the band had another record in them saying “I think the days of making a record, for me personally, are over.”
Talking to the paper about reports he was thinking of hanging up the boots after the residency, Neil replied “It’s not definite, but I am thinking seriously about it… I’m sitting on my yacht, contemplating my future, and I’m not sure it will be with Motley Crue after Las Vegas. Great things are coming up and pushing me in another direction.”
“This is all about me thinking about the second half of my life, thinking about my future, and that future might not include Motley Crue after Vegas,” he continued. “There are so many opportunities that are in front of me that I’m really excited about. I just don’t want to look back later in life and regret that I didn’t pursue them.”
“I’m just not sure I can give these opportunities the time and effort I’ll need to and continue with the band. It’s been a great ride, and I’ve enjoyed every second of it, but being out here relaxing in this beautiful place has given me the chance to reflect on what direction I want the rest of my life to take. I’m really giving it a lot of thought.”
Of course, just because Neil wants out doesn’t mean his bandmates necessarily do. Neil previously left Motley Crue in 1992 and was replaced by John Corabi. However the one album the band recorded with Corabi tanked after the first week of sales and was considered a commercial failure. Since then the band have failed to repeat their earlier success of the 1980s.
