Dubstep Hit Gets The Arctic Monkeys Treatment

Written by Nicholas Jones on 26 January 2012

British rockers the Arctic Monkeys, led by frontman Alex Turner, are continuing to prove how far the band have come in the last few years. Their latest and fourth studio LP, Suck It And See, showcased a more mature sound for the group made famous by classic tune ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’.

Now they’ve proven their versatility again by covering 2011 dubstep hit ‘On A Mission’ by Katy B during a live session for BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge in the UK.

Have a listen to the track below:

The Monkeys chose the dubstep tune for their mystery cover as apparently it is one of Alex Turner’s favourite tracks of 2011 and one that he’s wanted to cover ever since he first heard it.

In their version the band have stripped back the irresistible grove and replaced with with their signature rock grind. Inexplicably the Monkeys have actually managed to make the track sound like it is one of their own, although their are a few weak points that suggest they hadn’t rehearsed the song too many times before they performed it.

Suck It And See is out now on Domino. If you’re interested in hearing more from Katy B her album On A Mission is out on Columbia. You can listen to the original version of the song below.
