Slipknot aren’t the first group that come to mind when you think of rock god Dave Grohl, but that hasn’t stopped the Foo Fighters frontman from teaming up with Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor on a super secret side project.
Taylor, who is also the frontman of Stone Sour, has been keeping himself pretty busy lately. Last year Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum revealed that Taylor had recorded an albums worth of songs with the group but it was shelved after Slash decided he didn’t want Taylor in the band.
We don’t know a huge amount about the project yet, although we do know that it is somehow involved with an upcoming documentary Grohl is making. The film will focus on the mixing board that used the reside at Sound City Studios, where Nirvana recorded their seminal album ‘Nevermind’ and Slipknot recorded ‘Iowa’, explaining the Grohl/Taylor connection.
Corey Taylor recently spoke with Artisan News about the project revealing “[Grohl is] doing a documentary about the legendary board from Sound City that every and their mom recorded on.”
“Everybody from ‘Nevermind’ to ‘Iowa,’ and he’s slowly but surely gotten all these people together to make music on that board again,” he explained. “He called me — he was like “Would you like to do a tune?” I was like, Are you serious? I’m on a plane right now.”
Taylor continued, “It’s really cool because its me, Dave and [Cheap Trick guitarist] Rick Nielsen on one tune. It’s just a huge check mark on my bucket list, let’s put it that way. I’m really ecstatic, it’s a really good tune.”
Stephen Pearcy and Warrenn DeMartini of Ratt have also recorded with Grohl on this latest project, which has yet to be given a name, title or release date.
