Scissor Sisters Announce New Album

Written by Nicholas Jones on 15 March 2012

Prepare to be led down a seedy alley into a backwoods discotheque one more time – everybody’s favourite homopop band Scissor Sisters have announced that their fourth studio album Magic Hour will be released on 28th May.

The lead single ‘Only The Horses’ will be released a week earlier as a preview of the record. Speaking to NME about the new album lead singer Jake Shears said “It’s a sweet joyful mélange of beat-driven future-pop. It style-hops all over the place unabashedly.”

Shears had been trying to get Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme to collaborate on a song for the record saying in an interview back in 2011 “It’d be a dream collaboration, because I’m a huge fan. And he’s a fan of our band too, as unlikely as that might be. I think that he’s a genius, a genuine rock hero living among us.”

While he didn’t get that collaboration, the album will feature a number of other artists such as Pharrell Williams, Diplo, Boys Noize’s Alex Rihda and Azealia Banks as well as Calvin Harris, who co-produced ‘Only The Horses’ along with Shears.

“When we wrote ‘Only The Horses’, I immediately knew that he’d help knock it out of the park,” Shears said of working with Calvin Harris.

The popular genre-bending band will no doubt be hoping for a better reception for Magic Hour than their 2010 LP Night Work. Although they sold more than 5 million copies of their first two albums Ta-Dah and Scissor Sisters which both went platinum in Australia – Night Work didn’t even manage to go gold.

You can see the music video for ‘Shady Love’, a new track which is also said to be on the album below.
