Dinosaur Jr. Ready New Album

Dinosaur Jr. Ready New Album

Written by Al Newstead on 14 June 2012

It seems the flavour of today’s news is distinctly 90s with a dash of ‘guitar band’, following reports that the Stone Roses Reunion Tour is in jeopardy after the drummer walked out of a recent gig and news that Californian rockers, Cake are all but likely to play Harvest Festival; comes some details from one of the decades indie rock stalwarts; there’s some exciting news from the forefathers of lo-fi indie rock.

Pitchfork today announced that fuzz-rock elders Dinosaur Jr. have a new studio album under their belt ready for release before the end of the year.

I Bet On Sky is the name of the band’s eleventh studio album and is set for release on September 18 in the US via Jagjaguwar, with the UK/Europe (and potentially Australia) to get the album a day earlier through PIAS.

Following on from 2007′s Beyond and Farm two years later, I Bet On Sky is the third album from the trio since the original lineup of J. Mascis, Lou Barlow and drummer Murph reunited back in 2005, and again features some suitably trippy artwork.

There’s few other details yet, including any actual audio from the record, but band member Lou Barlow, who also moonlights as a solo artist and is part of Sebadoh, spoke to Tone Deaf earlier this year saying, “I’m currently in that headspace, enjoying how each band has its own idiosyncrasies and I’ve rediscovered my love for being one of three people in a room working out song ideas together.”

Barlow was out promoting his solo material earlier this year, trailing frontman J Mascis’ who also did a short run of shows in January. Dinosaur Jr as a whole, haven’t been in Australia in two years, but could the announcement of a new album mean a trip down-under? We’ll keep our fingers crossed while you peruse the dreamy album art.
