Dave Grohl Honoured With 400kg Drumsticks

Written by Al Newstead on 4 July 2012

Foo Fighter, former Nirvana Member, celebrity drummer for hire and ‘Nicest Guy In Rock’, Dave Grohl, has done more than enough in his career to earn a tribute or two, and Grohls’ hometwon of Warren in his native Ohio have already named a street after him, but now they’ve revealed they’ve got an epic new tribute to the rock star.

Two 900-pound drumsticks created from local wood logging. Rightio…

Rolling Stone reports that the two mammoth drumsticks, weighing in at approx 400 kg are constructed from poplar logs in the drummer’s honour, will be shown to the general public for the first time this weekend during a concert at the local Warren Amphitheatre on Saturday 7th July.

They’ll remain ‘in residence’ at the Amphitheatre until the end of September when they’ll be relocated to Dave Grohl Alley.

Joe O’Grady, a resident of the Ohio town and a local police officer, is the president of the organisation Main Street Warren, who helped put the finishing details on the sticks with feathers etched into the wood to mimic Grohl’s arm tattoos.

According to Joe O’Grady, a Warren policeman and president of the promotional organization Main Street Warren, the final touches were recently added to the sticks with feathers etched in to mimic the tattoos on Grohl’s arms.

Though Grohl moved from Warren, Ohio to Alexandria, Virginia when he was just a pup, he still has plenty of family in the town he was born in, and that dedicated a street to him in 2009. There is no word on whether he’ll be returning to attend the ceremony of the oversized drumsticks constructed in his honour, but O’Grady and the townsfolk are hopeful.

In related news, Grohl is probably still busy on his upcoming documentary, Sound City, about the titular recording studio located in Van Nuys, LA. A star studded trailer for the documentary surfaced online a few months ago that gave a glimpse into the film. Including the huge list of musicians attached including Nevermind producer and Garbage member, Butch Vig, Frank Black (The Pixies), Ross Robinson (producer Korn, Slipknot), fellow Foo, Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Tim Commemford (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave), Lars Ulrich (Metallica); and – of course – Grohl’s best pal and everyone’s favourite flame-haired Elvis: Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures).

Since then though, little more information has been available on the film, or even Grohl’s activity given that the Foos are currently on a well-earned break from touring commitments.
