When Gay Porn And Electro Collide

Written by Al Newstead on 12 July 2012

When it comes to music clips, a lot of bands simply stick to the old familiar formulas. Trumping for a light narrative with minimal band presence, or settling for a basic performance vid or live-shot clip.

Not French new wave electro act, The Aikiu.

The Paris-based quartet’s latest music video splices footage from homosexual pornography in a cross-cut fashion with images of instruments being played to deliver a mash-up montage that’s as humorous as it is sharp.

Conceived and directed by Panteros, Myd & Boston Bun, the (sort of) Safe For Work video basically tracking their vintage-sounding electro-pop against equally vintage gay porno footage to hilarious effect; and contains enough of a mix of cheeky humour and innovation to see it become an internet meme.

It’ll certainly help create some buzz around the band and their latest single ”Pieces of Gold”, taken from their EP of the same name, and the promo clip has already been doing the rounds of many internet-based blogs and websites.

It’s put the Gallic outfit in good stead for their debut album, due later this year, which promises to deliver “sheer rock energy and vintage keyboards with very intimate lyrics.” The cheeky video is a pretty accurate reflection of what they deem their music to be: “modern and old fashioned at the same time.”  Albeit with some pretty ingenious use of amateur erotica.

Take a look at The Aikiu’s ‘Pieces of Gold” video, just don’t say we didn’t warn you when your boss looks over your shoulder and wonders about the lurid ways you spend your working hours!
