No Doubt Unleash Lead Single From First Album In 11 Years

Written by Al Newstead on 17 July 2012

It’s been over a decade since No Doubt released their last studio album, 2001′s Rock Steady, but the Californian group have just released the first taste from their first album in eleven years, the forthcoming Push And Shove.

‘Settle Down’ is the lead single from Push And Shove, featuring some beats from super-producer Diplo, who as previously reported, who along with his Major Lazer partner Switch, had been involved in the recording process of the album.

The new comeback single contains traces of their ska-punk origins with stinging guitar lines and rumbling rhythms, but also the pop sheen that turned them into mutli-platinum selling monsters that dominated the American pop/rock landscape.

Work on new material actually began as far back as 2008, when during a previous interview with NME, Stefani described the songwriting approach as “desperate,” with writing and preparation for the new record pre-dating Stefani’s pregnancy, and also allowed enough time for the ‘Hollaback Girl’ to launch a fashion label, have two children with husband Gavin Rossdale, and of course launch her own solo career.

Reconvening with bandmates Tony Canal, Adrian Young and Tom Dumont to finish session late last year at the studio of legendary producer Mark ‘Spike’ Stent. His star-studded CV includes work with Madonna, Coldplay and Depeche Mode as well as having worked previously with No Doubt as well as on Stefani’s solo debut.

Speaking of their forthcoming album, the band remarked: “Thank you all so much for your support over the last 25 years. We’re really proud of our new album and we hope you love it as much as we do. We are incredibly excited to share the new music with you. Ear candy coming your way!”

You can listen to ‘Settle Down’ the first single from Push And Shove, which releases September 24, below:
