50 Shades Of Grey Soundtrack *ahem* Coming

Written by Al Newstead on 9 August 2012

Roll over Barry White, step aside Prince, there’s a new love-making soundtrack in town and it’s to the sexy strains of pages turning; accompanied by strings and orchestras so you can fugue all night long, all thanks to the success of some literary porn.

Even if you’re not one of the scores of people who’s read it, you’ve no doubt heard of the best-selling, titillating Fifty Shades Of Grey . The novel by elusive British author EL James has been one of the year’s most prominent cultural markers, introducing erotic fiction to a whole new audience and now it’s getting its own soundtrack.

CBS News reports that the book, along with its two sequels that round out the Fifty Shades trilogy will be receiving a 15 track classical music compilation to capitalize on the series’ success but also cement the connection to the books, which contain references to classical compositions in their pages.

The sexy trilogy, which has sold more than 20 million copies in the United States alone, references 15 famous classical music pieces – including Pachelbel’s Canon in D’, the ‘Aria’ from Bach’s Goldberg Variations – and fans looking to educate themselves or simply enhance their Fifty Shades experience (minus the BDSM) will be able to purchase the soundtrack to the series.

The series author also issued a press statement for the impending soundtrack, due for release on September 17, “I am thrilled that the classical pieces that inspired me while I wrote the Fifty Shades Trilogy are being brought together in one collection for all lovers of the books to enjoy,” writes James.

As indication of the popular erotic trilogy’s run-on effect, Thomas Tallis’ 16th century motet “Spem in Alium” recently re-entered then jumped to the top of the UK classical charts recently, which can be strongly attribute to the pages of the novels.

Fifty Shades of Grey – The Classical Album will be out digitally on August 21 and on CD, September 17, but you can preview the soundtrack below while you imagine the sexual exploits of Christian Grey and Alexandra Steele.
