Flight Of The Conchords Release Charity Single For Sick Kids

They say that laughter is the best medicine, so that pretty much certifies New Zealand’s self-proclaimed “fourth most popular folk-parody duo” Flight of the Conchords certified doctors, right?

In the wake of their hugely successful Australian tour, Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement have released a brand new single to help prove that point. A charity single whose proceeds will go directly to help children suffering from life-threatening illness.

Mashable reports that the Conchords’ new track was originally performed live as part of a televised comedy special held in New Zealand last week. The Red Nose Day: Comedy for Cure Kids broadcast helped raise $1.3 million for medical research into life-threatening illnesses that affect children.

Entitled “Feel Inside (And Stuff Like That)”, McKenzie and Clement penned their new single after spending time with children and attempting to collaborate on some songwriting, including kids attending the duo’s hometown Clyde Quay School in Wellington.

The accompanying video for the comedy charity single (which you can view at the banner) features the pair (along with beligerent manager Murray Hewitt aka comedian Rhys Darby), fooling about with Cure Kids organisers before the duo interview a bunch of (suitably adroable) children.

The pair then take the children’s impossibly cute responses and blend it with their sharp brand of genre parody.
In this case, it’s lampooning big charity singles with a host of guest stars – most of them New Zealand personalities – singing great couplets like “There must be something we can do/to stop these kids from doing spews.”

According to New Zealand’s TV3, the other artists featuring on the song include Dave Dobbyn, Brooke Fraser, Boh Runga, Sam Scott, Luke Buda, Savage, Young Sid, Tyree, Deach, PNC, Zowie, Ruby Frost, Kids of 88, Rikki Morris, Moana Maniapoto, Nathan King, Maitereya, Victoria Girling-Butcher, Elizabeth Marvelly, Peter Urlich and Cherie Mathieson.

Nicest men in comedy rock? Yeah, they’ve got it sewn up.
