Jack White To Release Live Albums By The Shins & The Kills

It’s well known that Jack White is a very busy man, not only being a member of The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather and performing extensively as a solo artist, but also running his own label, Third Man Records.

Now as part of White’s record label-come-studio’s recently announced ‘Rocktober’, Third Man Records will be hosting a series of live shows in commemoration of recent renovations to the complex that features a live venue and recording studio, as well as a retail store.

As Gibson reports, The Shins, The Kills and Seasick Steve will all play intimate live shows at the studios in Nashville , which will be recorded and released individually as LPs.

James Mercers’ indie darlings The Shins will play on October 6, while Jack White’s fellow Dead Weather vocalist Alison Mosshart will be bringing The Kills on October 10, while Seasick Steve delivers his incendiary blues on October 26.

Third Man Records has stated that those lucky enough to get tickets to the gigs will able to “see the show being recorded, mixed and mastered live to an acetate disc via the viewing window and a two camera monitor system.”

The live venue and recording studio lays claim to being the “only live to acetate venue in the world”, and is the same machine that produced the works of iconic artists including James Brown, Hank Ballard, and Charlie Feathers.

Other artists who have recently passed through Jack White’s Third Man Records include forthcoming Harvest headliner Beck, (who’s also celebrating the 10th Anniversary of his 2002 album Seachange) who jammed with White on a new single released last May; and Radiohead. Well, presumably – given they gave the Third Man Records proprietor an on-stage thanks on tour earlier in the year, leading to rumours of a collaboration.

Meahwhile, “enthralled” fans who saw The Shins on their recent Australian tour earlier this year, will now have the chance to relive this experience, which our reviewer labelled “almost faultless” and “an amazing display”.

The releases will join the already extensive collection of Live At Third Man LPs, which include the likes of Cold War Kids, surreal musical comic Reggie Watts, and even talk show host Conan O’Brien.

Third Man Records was founded by Jack White in 2001, who was recently nominated for an EG Award for Best Tour, following his recent visit to Australia for Splendour In The Grass and a run of sideshows.

White will probably be glad the shows won’t be put together as a music festival, after labeling them a “necessary evil” and saying that “I don’t get excited about festivals…they’re not my favourite place to play.
