Coming off the back of this morning’s announcement that Cat Power may cancel her upcoming tour commitments due to suffering health issues and bankruptcy, Canadian electronic artist Grimes has similarly cast doubt over her upcoming Australian tour and appearance at this year’s Meredith Music Festival.

In an awful sense of deja vu for Aunty Meredith, Grimes (real name Clare Boucher) has lamented over Twitter the cancellation of her European commitments due to “health issues”.

The critically acclaimed experimental musician is also scheduled to kick off her first ever visit to Australia in just over a month’s time.

While there has been no word on her tour commitments down under, which includes her appearance at Meredith and a string of side shows, she has cancelled all of her current commitments up to the 1st of December – which as The Music Network identifies, is just four days before her sold out show at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel.

Grimes’ cancellations actually began in October, as she was forced to pull out of select Canadian shows, tweeting: “Hey guys, so sorry 4 the cancelled shows. im having trouble w hearing loss, tinnitus & am trying 2 stay away from loud music 4 a bit -_-“.

Alarm bells rang yet again yesterday as she broke the news that she would have to bypass her European altogether, set to kick off in Bristol Tuesday week, for the same hearing issues. However, she’s has also promised that rescheduled dates are forthcoming:

However with no mention of her Australian commitments, one must assume that no news is good news for now.

Despite these troubling developments, the alternative electro pop renegade has been building hype on the back of January’s Visions, and the nationally sold out tour is set to bring her unique brand of electronic music to some of the country’s best venues.

It would be a shame if Grimes is forced to back out of these shows as well, but be sure to check back for any further developments.
