Want to buy a one-of-a-kind piece of Beatles history? Well, start planning a bank heist – or simply ‘Imagine’ – because for a few million pounds it could be yours, in the shape of a luxury mansion that used to belong to bespectacled music legend John Lennon, according to music blogger Alan Cross.

Following on from the news that Dave Grohl’s Californian beachfront home was up for auction, the deceased Beatle’s one-time home is now also up for sale through Knight Frank real estate, and while the Foo Fighters’ getaway was going for a cool US$ 3.25M, the asking price for Lennon’s abode dwarves that price tag with an asking price of £13,750,000 (approx AUD$ 22,670,055).

An astronomical sum, but a viable one considering the rich history of the mansion known as Kenwood. Located in Surrey, England, the house was built in 1913 and purchased by Lennon in 1964 for £20,000, who spent that amount again in renovating the mansion so that he could live there with his wife Cynthia and their son Julian.

Four years later, in 1968, Cynthia came home to discover John in bed with Yoko, swiftly leading to the house being sold off for £40,000, during his four-year residency there however, apparently iconic Beatles classics like ‘Day Tripper’, ‘In My Life’, and ‘Hey Jude’ were written there.

Located at the very British sounding address of Wood Lane, St George’s Hill, Weybridge in Surrey, England, the real estate listing describes it as a “rare opportunity to purchase a luxuriously finished family home, formerly owned by John Lennon, set in about 1.5 acres of exquisite gardens within the renowned St George’s Hill Estate,” recognised as being “one of the UK’s premier private residential addresses.”

The three-storey, 6-bedroom, 6-bath, 6-reception room country estate and overlooks a golf course, a tennis club and gorgeous landscaped gardens and grounds  (meaning you can live like ‘The Fool On The Hill’) that “feature attractive York stone, split level entertaining terraces, low box hedging, specimen plants and herbaceous borders,” as well as uninterrupted views of the Surrey Hills.”

Its various interiors, occupying 11,948 square feet (1,110 sq m), show that the vintage estate contains both an antique flavour, but also many modern trimmings that its former famous musical proprietor couldn’t have possibly managed in the 60 – such as mile-wide plasma TVs and a state of the art kitchen.

Tucked away at the bottom of the impressive garden is a “wonderful addition in the form of an indoor swimming pool complex offering a heated pool, shower and changing facilities along with further sauna,” perfect for relaxing in after irrevocably changing the pop culture landscape.

The full Knight Frank brochure for the property also trumpets. private parking, gated security and privacy, great local schooling, and an ideal commuter location that’s only 24 miles from central London via the M25 motorway. The listing concludes, that “this unique house boasts substantial entertaining and family accommodation incorporating many original features alongside a luxury finish,” that’ll surely have prospective buyers humming ‘Baby, You’re A Rich Man’, assuming you can afford the costs of ‘A Day In The Life’ in Lennon’s shoes.
