Following on from starting up their very own lineup mill in a list of international bands they’re keen on, the organisers of St Jerome’s Laneway Festival have just dropped a clunker of a clue as to another band that could be playing the Laneway 2014 lineup.

Glaswegian synth-popsters CHVRCHES are in Australia next week for brief three-date stopover, playing in Sydney and Melbourne for the first time for their August tour, but it seems that the Scottish trio could be back Down Under early next year as part of the lineup for Laneway 2014.

The juicy rumour comes from the festival organisers themselves, who tweeted their enthusiasm at the CHVRCHES tour selling out with a rather conspicuous tweet, as FasterLouder points out.

CHRVCHES, the third most blogged about band of the year according to a recent BBC/Hype Machine poll, have sold out their imminent Australian tour off the back of just two EPs released this year, Gun and Recover, while their debut album The Bones Of What You Believe is scheduled to drop on 20th September.

The Glasgow-based band aren’t the only group titled for the Laneway 2014 lineup, with organisers recently revealing their list of the Top 5 International Breakthrough Bands of the year, and considering last year’s similar breakthrough list eventually roped in Japandroids and Jessie Ware for the Laneway 2013 lineup, it’s likely that at least some of the band’s mentioned in this year’s list – including the likes of New York’s HAERTS and electronic prodigy XXYYXX – could turn up on the 2014 bill.

“We’ve been keeping busy putting together the line-up for Laneway 2014,” tease organisers. “So whether or not any of the following acts make the cut is anyone’s guess. Is that a line-up hint? We’ll let you be the judge.”

Another band that’s already a likely lock for next year’s edition, are all-girl British post-punk band Savages, who have let slip of their likelihood of playing the February event.

“We’re coming over in February next year,” drummer Fay Milton revealed recently. “I don’t know if our festival has been announced actually, but I’ve been to the festival before, it should be good.” Savages are also playing the Laneway Festival in Detroit Michigan this September, the festival’s inaugural showing in America, demonstrating its exponential growth since starting as street party in Melbourne alleys back in 2004.

Our Tone Deaf reviewer said of the Melbourne leg this year said that Laneway is “fast becoming the most enviable date on the summer festival calendar,” and since its inception it has expanded nationally as well as launching Singapore and Auckland, New Zealand editions, and has also outgrown its Western Australian leg, moving from its regular home at the Perth Cultural Centre to a new site in Fremantle in a new five year deal that starts with next year’s edition.
