Remember the nappy-wearing Aussie three-piece that performed the Hottest 100 in a single half-hour live mashup last year?

Well, they’ve now set themselves an even greater challenge to equally awesome results, covering a selection of the world’s biggest EDM stars and dance-filling hits in the ‘World’s First Live-Instrumental DJ set.’

Melbourne trio The Bareback Titty Squad became a viral hit last March – racking up over 300,000 YouTube views when they squeezed the five-and-a-half hour 2012 Hottest 100 countdown into a live mash-up, but rather than repeat another Triple J-inspired medley, the band turned their attentions to another Top 100 list.

Namely, DJ Mag’s esteemed Top 100 DJs poll. The results of the EDM bible’s annual poll (now in its 20th year) were revealed last October, and shortly after The Bareback Titty Squad set about transforming the poll into another epic live mash-up.

“We intend to combine at least one track from each DJ featured on the list,” the trio – Miles de Carteret, Callum Padgham, and Dave Holder – told InTheMix ahead of the DJ Mag results being revealed last year. No easy task, but three months and a sweaty film shoot later, and The Bareback Titty Squad have emerged victorious…

While the Hottest 100 mega-medley meant the Bareback Titty Squad had to learn a number of familiar rock and indie hits in a specific order, the DJ countdown was merely a list of globetrotting electronic artists – such as Skrillex, Deadmau5, Tiesto, and the #1 DJ: Hardwell; meaning the Melbourne trio had the freedom of choosing any particular DJ anthem, but also the added difficulty of transposing electro bangers to guitar, bass, and drums.

“As the list does not specify any particular track, we have the opportunity to embody the DJ and carefully select each track individually,” the band explained.

“There will be a strong focus on the mixing itself, emulating the styles and techniques employed by DJs but performed entirely on practical instruments: scratching, slowing, skipping, filtering, reversing, jogging, three or more tracks playing simultaneously and more.”

No easy task, but three months and a sweaty film shoot later, and The Bareback Titty Squad have emerged victorious with a dazzling video showing off their ambitious project.

Whipping through 100 artists in 40 minutes, the interactive clip features everything from stone cold dance hits (Daft Punk’s ‘Da Funk’, Eric Prydz ‘Call On Me’) to modern blockbusters (Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’, Calvin Harris’ ‘Close To You’) and, as promised, all manner of rock band cross-fades and mix-ups of the poll-topping EDM stars.

The Bareback Titty Squad’s Hottest 100 mashup video cracked well over 200,000 views in its first 48 hours, and with their new live DJ set, the band are “expecting to reach a minimum of 1,000,000 views.”

The video – uploaded on Monday 20th January – is currently sitting at over 30,000 views and is expected to pick up pace as word spreads.

The band are also taking their dazzling DJ mash-up on the road, debuting their epic achievement live at a hometown show at Melbourne’s Ding Dong Lounge on Friday 31st January before heading to Brisbane and Adelaide.
