British India Sign Record Deal With Liberation

It may have taken seven years, and that wasn’t for want of trying by numerous record labels, but Melbourne indie rockers British India have finally signed a long term recording and publishing deal that will see them join the Mushroom stable.

Their recording and publishing deals were signed with Liberation and Mushroom Music Publishing respectively and the first material from the deal will be detailed next week, the first single release from the new album.

“We’ve never been opposed to signing with the right Label, but in the past we did what we did out of necessity,” said band manager Glenn Goldsmith. “British India have been in discussions with Liberation and Mushroom for some time refining a deal that works for all parties. Now we have one that we believe will create a very strong platform for us.”

“I’m very proud of our track record of finding and developing new bands,” Mushroom Group Chairman Michael Gudinski added. “Whilst British India are in the unique position of having released three very successful albums, they are still young enough and hungry enough to take it to the next level.”

“And although this deal took some time to come together,” he added. “I’m extremely happy with it. Good things are worth waiting for.”

Having emerged from Melbourne’s independent music scene in 2007 with their acclaimed debut album Guillotine, British India developed a hard-earned reputation for their explosive live shows and relentless touring. They took out the AIR Award for Best New Independent Artist that same year.

In July 2008, British India released their second album Thieves. Thieves demonstrated the band’s growth, in both popularity and as songwriters. It debuted at #5 on the ARIA Album chart and earned the boys their first ARIA Award nomination.

Avalanche, their third album, was released in June 2010 and scored the band their second Top 10 ARIA chart debut, demonstrating just how far British India had come in three short years.

Fast forward to 2012 and the band are again hard at work, with album number four just over the horizon. The bulk of the new album has already been written and fans will be able to get a taste of the new songs at a special showcase show in Melbourne at The Corner Hotel, May 25th.

British India will announce details of the first single release from the new album next week.
