Tame Impala Offer Lead Single From Forthcoming Album

Written by Al Newstead on 26 July 2012

If you’ve been keeping up to date with Tame Impala’s trail towards their highly-anticipated second album (and we have), then you’ll know that the band swiftly followed up confirmation that they’d be touring as part of Parklife, with the first taste of their forthcoming sophomore record, entitled Lonerism, arriving in the form of an album trailer (one of 2012′s biggest trends it seems).

The teaser, all kaleidoscopic visuals and acid-fried tour footage, contained brand new audio snippets which eventually led to an actual tune that we could wrap our ears around.

The Perth quartet offering up the psychelicious slice of Beatles-influenced rock that was ‘Apocalypse Dreams‘ earlier this month.

But ‘Apocalypse Dreams’ was just one track from the forthcoming Lonerism, and now we have our second serving in the official lead single from the record (due October 5th through Modular), titled ‘Elephant.’

Its a much sleeker jam from Kevin Parker and his outfit, with the familiar haze to their sound and gives a good indication of Dave Fridmann’s production on the album, his previous work includes similarly psychedelically minded bands like The Flaming Lips, MGMT and Mercury Rev. Fridmann mixed the album alongside Parker, who self-produced and mixed the group’s second LP.

‘Elephant’ is due for single release in August with remixes from Australia’s own psych-popsters Canyons and legendary singer/songwriter/producer Todd Rundgren.

In-between their appearances at this weekend’s sold-out Splendour In The Grass and October’s Parklife - the band have but together an extensive American and EU schedule which keeps them busy until November, which still leaves room for some of the Australian festival season in summer.

Could they be on the next round of Falls Festival announcements? Harvest perhaps? Its bill is still suspiciously light on Australian representatives. Meredith seems a likely fit, and with only two acts announced, there’s certainly room on the bill.

You can have a listen to lead single ‘Elephant’ below, and be sure to check out ‘Apocalypse Dreams’ while you’re at it.
