Wolfmother Says Triple J “Can Go Fuck Themselves”

Andrew Stockdale, the frontman for Black Sabbath tribute act, Wolfmother, has taken a nasty bite out of the hand that feeds, blasting national youth radio station Triple J as being “conservative” and “100% consistently lame.”

Wolfmother were once the toast of Triple J. Ever since their 2005 self-titled debut scooped a number of plaudits with the station, taking out both the inaugral J Award and listener’s choice for Album of the Year; six of its tracks also appeared in that year’s Hottest 100 chart, a rare feat indeed.

Their relationship with the station is best demonstrated when it ranked at #8 on their recent ‘Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time’ poll.

It’s no surprise given the station’s high rotation of their debut, but it seems the relationship must have soured over the years, proven by Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale who blasted the radio station during an onstage tirade at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

FasterLouder noted that the Triple J hating rant came during during the band’s support slot for Smashing Pumpkins’ Splendour In The Grass sideshow, where after the warming the crowd up with a selection of their biggest hits, including ‘Dimension’, ‘Woman’ and the obligatory ‘Joker and the Thief’, Stockdale took to the mic to abuse the radio station.

Calling the ABC youth station, “Left wing conservatives sitting up in their offices on their government paid wages.” Further spewing his anger, “explaining that they never paid attention to him and his early demos until Wolfmother started getting hyped and as soon as everyone began to ‘hate’ Wolfmother they stopped playing them.” Finally spitting a venomous “triple j can go fuck themselves!”

Wolfmother further blasted triple j via their twitter post about their Splendour In The Grass attendance:

Is this a case of sour grapes on Stockdale’s behalf? Or do you think he’s got a point?
