Something For Kate Unveil Another Track From First Album In Six Years

Something For Kate have offered fans another glimpse of their forthcoming sixth studio album, Leave Your Soul To Science, only a week before it hits shelves next Friday.

Entitled “The Fireball At The End Of Everything”, the track appeared online this morning. It follows the release of lead single “Survival Expert” last month, the Melbourne band’s first offering in six years.

Subtle and restrained, “The Fireball At The End Of Everything” showcases frontman Paul Dempsey’s honest, heartfelt lyricism as he croons, “I’ll follow you to the ends of the earth.” The track is poised but tense, with a dark, brooding atmosphere dominating. It slowly builds until a cathartic finale, with Stephanie Ashworth’s fuzzy bass propelling the final moments.

Earlier in the month, the band previewed Leave Your Soul To Science by playing two intimate shows in Melbourne and Sydney. In a positive review of the Melbourne show, our Tone Deaf reviewer wrote “it’s like Something For Kate never left”.

Adding that, “if tonight’s evidence is anything to go by… Leave Your Soul To Science is going to be an accomplished return to form; focussing the concise alchemy of the band’s strengths.”

While making Leave Your Soul To Science, Something For Kate kept their fans in the loop by releasing a series of video clips from the recording studio in Dallas, Texas. Earlier in the year, we named the upcoming release in our list of The Most Anticipated Albums of 2012.

Speaking to The Music Network, Dempsey called the new album, “definitely the most sonically interesting record we’ve ever made. There’s some really savage, fuzz bass sounds on there. On the one hand, it feels like the most organic record we’ve ever made, because it’s all happened so naturally and quickly. We haven’t over-thought anything.”

Dempsey released a solo album called Everything Is True in 2009, to critical acclaim, but you have to go back to three years earlier for the last Something For Kate studio album, 2006′s Desert Lights.

Something For Kate will embark on a hotly anticipated national tour in October, with two hometown shows at the The Corner Hotel already sold out, with a third swiftly following.  Support will come from The Gin Club’s Ben Salter.

They’ve also been named for the festival circuit, with the three-piece set to play the Queenscliff Music Festival, Golden Days and Homebake, surely keeping them busy for the rest of year.
