With the summer season of festivals fast approaching, it seems a natural time to launch a new live music venue, and following on from Melbourne getting new venues opening up in the city’s inner north – including Northcote’s Level 2, the reopening of North Melbourne’s Public Bar, and Sydney Road’s eccentrically named The Rare And Reclusive, Oft Neglected, Lesser Spotted Mallard – there’s a new name to add to that list.

The new pop-up music venue is being provided by the Abbotsford Convent, which see bands both local and otherwise delivering live music during the warmer months of the year at the Shadow Electric Bar inside the convent, just east of Melbourne’s CBD.

The building is already home to a trendy-as-hell open air cinema, artistic residents, festivals, and workshops located right on the same grounds as a local bar and restaurant. Now, it seems the vibrant location is only going to get cooler with the announcement of some high profile gigs taking place in the coming months.’

According to the Shadow Electric’s facebook page, the new pop-up series is called The Good Hustle Music Salon and launches tomorrow night with a stellar lineup of Melbourne-based artists including the sad-core, synth heavy Geoffrey O’Conner, tropically tinged alt-rockers Lost Animal, and a DJ set from Clubfeet.

The first of a series of concerts playing throughout the summer to complement the Shadow Electric’s popular open air cinema programme, the Good Hustle will also host must-see shows from neo-chanteuse Brous with the powerful Kira Puru & The Bruise on November 16th, while dance aficionados World’s End Press are paired with the heartbreak electronica of Collarbones on the 1st of December.

There’s also a Cup Eve show from The Woohoo Revue, Sex On Toast and Melatonin on Monday 5th November,  as well as shows from the likes of Public Opinion, The Cactus Channel, Harmony Teeth and Tongue Olympia.

You can purchase tickets to shows at The Good Hustle website, and view the full list of dates below:
