Bliss N Eso, 360, and Talib Kweli have already been checked off his bucket list, but now an Aussie producer is ticking another huge box on his working CV.

Eminem is releasing his highly anticipated eighth studio album, MMLP2 (The Marshall Mathers LP 2)next month and ARIA Award-winning Melbourne producer M-Phazes features on the spiritual sequel’s opening track.

Teaming with Grammy-winning American producer S1, M-Phazes is responsible for the beats on ‘Bad Guy’, the lead cut for Slim Shady’s newest release, due on November 5th through Aftermath Entertainment/Interscope Records.

“Being a long time fan of Eminem, it’s a real honour to co-produce the opening track of his next album, and it’s incredible to know that both Rick Rubin and Dr. Dre have given my work their seal of approval!” says M-Phazes (real name Mark Landon) of the coveted credit.

Originally hailing from the Gold Coast, Landon currently resides and operates from Melbourne, where he has become a go-to producer for hip hop artists in the last half-decade.

He’s produced albums and tracks for local heroes like Bliss N Eso (on first two albums Flying Colour and Running On Air), Drapht (on Life Of Riley), 360, and Illy, as well as lending his touch to Kimbra’s stunning debut Vows, and international rappers Xzibit, Pharoahe Monch, and Talib Kweli.

M-Phazes then took out the ARIA Award for Best Urban Release for his own 2010 Obese Records release, Good Gracious, which featured a who’s who of Aussie hip hop – including Pez, Mantra, Spit Syndicate, Phrase, N’Fa, Dialectrix, and many more, followed up by sophomore release, The Works.

Following a signing with Warner/It’s Offical music and finishing up his role as executive producer on Illy’s album, Cinematic, M-Phazes is currently at work on a new studio album. That’s on top of his career as a sought-after DJ, having supported artists such as Lil’ Wayne and Wu Tang Clan on their respective Australian tours.

Still, even for someone who’s such a fertile part of the Australian hip hop scene, the production credit on Eminem’s MMLP2 is still a major coup. M-Phazes and co-producer S1 first met back in 2006 and had been working together on a series of productions when they were thrilled to discover that their beat – which features vocals from S1’s singing partner Sarah Jaffe – was picked up for the opening of the rap icon’s latest release.

The Real Slim Shady is himself returning to tour Australia in February 2014, headlining the inaugural Rapture Festival, featuring Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Australia’s own racism-battling MC and M-Phazes collaborator, 360.
