Written by Jim Murray on 29 April 2011

Legendary rock ‘ roll pioneer Buddy Holly is about to receive a proper rock n’ roll tribute with the news that the likes of Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, My Morning Jacket and Cee Lo Green are about to appear on a 19 song tribute to the doomed rock pioneer, The aforementioned artists are set to ply their wares on a 19 song tribute album which seeks to pay tribute to the legend of rock n’ roll who sadly died in an aeroplane crash.

On February 3rd 1959, Holly, Latino rocker Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper would all meet their deaths along with the pilot, as they attempted to make a gig via light plane in another city through a snowstorm. Songwriter Don McLean would later write his hit song ‘American Pie’ about the event, declaring that the death of these artists was ‘the day the music died’.
