Guns n’ Roses – AKA Axl Rose and his merry band of session musos – have three album’s worth of material in the can, according to his guitarist DJ Ashba. Ashba was having a chinwag with music reporter Nui Te Koha on Melbourne commercial radio station Triple M’s Hot Breakfast show, where he revealed that not only does he believe Rose is a genius, he thinks he has a ‘rare gift’ for song writing. (We’ll either take that observation with a grain of salt or just disregard most of Chinese Democracy).

Ashba, who is currently squiring Melbourne model Nicky Whelan, told Te Koha, “Axl has a lot of great songs up his sleeve. He probably has three albums worth of stuff recorded. The stuff I’ve heard… I’ve been up in his hotel room many nights and he just sits down at the piano and plays. I’m like ‘this is amazing, people have to hear this song’ and he’s like “ah, this is something I’m tinkering on’.”

He’s also not averse to blowing smoke up his boss’ arse, saying “He’s just a genius when it comes down to music and I just cannot wait to sit down with an acoustic guitar and just write. He’s just got this gift that’s very, very rare.” Having three albums worth of material is all very well, but considering there was a 17 year gap in the release of original Guns N’ Roses material between 1991’s bloated Use Your Illusion albums and 2008’s disappointing Chinese Democracy, this should cover Guns n’ Roses’ release schedule for the next 51 years if we are to assume that Axl will release material at the same rate.
