Johnny Depp Joins Alice Cooper’s Band

Written by Jim Murray on 29 June 2011

Wow! It’s Pirates of My Nightmare … or I’m Eighteen Jump Street. Errr, something like that. The space/time continuum broke apart a little over the weekend when most A –List celebrities in the UK were ligging down at Glastonbury, certified Hollywood star Johnny Depp joined an intimate audience watching shock rocker Alice Cooper play a set at London’s tiny 100 Club.

During the performance, Depp jumped up on stage to play guitar with Cooper’s band on his 70s classics ‘School’s Out’ and ‘I’m Eighteen’. Cooper drolly informed his mate Depp, who originally pursued a career in music before taking up acting “I think we could use another guitar player, right? Johnny, this whole movie thing … If it doesn’t pan out, join us, okay?”

It’s not the first time Depp has had his moment in the spotlight as an axe slinger. He has played slide guitar on the Oasis song ‘Fade Out’, as well as contributing guitar licks to Shame MacGowan of The Pogues’ first solo album. He’s also variously performed in outfits that have included Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones, as well as teaming up with Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder to perform as punk high priestess Patti Smith’s backing band at a benefit concert.

While the Soundwave Revolution promoters have pulled off a coup getting Cooper to headline this September’s Soundwave Revolution events, we don’t like our chances of them getting Johnny Depp out to play too. Check out footage of the gig here:
