The nominees for the 2012 Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame have been announced, including first time nominations for The Cure, Guns N’ Roses, Joan Jett And The Blackhearts, and Heart. Previous nominees Beastie Boys, Faces, and Red Hot Chili Peppers have also made the list, chosen by a committee at the Hall Of Fame.

While some of the names on the list are still contemporary acts, to qualify for nomination an act must have released its first single or album 25 years ago. Doesn’t that make you feel old?

Seen as one of the ultimate honours in music, many bands including The Police, Led Zeppelin, Cream, and other have put aside feuds and differences between members and former-members to perform at the induction ceremony. If inducted many GNR fans will no doubt be hoping for the ultimate rock n roll reunion between estranged former guitarist Slash and frontman Axl Rose.

However Axl threw cold water on the idea of a reunion back in 2008 when on a fan forum he declared “It’s nice to get recognition and have some form of acceptance but in regards to joining others the price is too high and just not worth it. It’s a ways away and seems a bit presumptuous to be contemplating being inducted now.”

In an interview with Spinner, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash discussed a potential nomination saying “If they’re gonna pass you over, I don’t think it’s worth worrying about too much. But at the same time it’s nice to be recognised by your peers, so yeah, everybody wants to be mentioned. But if they don’t mention you, you can’t take it too seriously because they miss a lot of really important people every year.”

Those nominees accepted will be inducted at a ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 1, 2012.
