It’s on again. The annual take-no-prisoners traditional clash between The Rockdogs and Triple R 102.7FM / PBS 106.7FM Megahertz will be fought out at Elsternwick Park on Sunday 24th June. This year’s catchphrase of ‘Can The Mega’s Do The Dogs’ is based on the theme of legendary cult band The Cramps.

Whilst the footy match will be the centerpiece, there will also be musical entertainment provided by bands throughout the day.

Much-loved iconic 80s Melbourne band Blue Ruin have been enticed to come out of retirement to perform a set at the end of the match. Other bands performing are Melbourne indie-pop band Boomgates (featuring members from Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Dick Diver, and The Twerps) and all-girl Melbourne rock outfit Bunny Monroe.

A final act will be announced after the annual SYN FM Free Kick competition is held (more details soon). All bands will play some of The Cramps songs in amongst their set.

Preparations are well underway to make this family friendly fun day out, one for all Melburnians to embrace, and to carry on a tradition that has now been occurring for the past 20 years. From what started out as a humble Australian football (AFL) match amongst the music fraternity, it is today an event which last year saw over $120,000 raised and 12,000 in attendance.

Today the Reclink Community Cup is very much part of the Melbourne music and sporting event calendar.

Last year The Rockdogs, comprising of members of the Melbourne music fraternity won after a resounding 35 point victory against community radio personnel Triple R 102.7FM and PBS 106.7FM Megahertz. Who will take the honour of winning the 2012 Reclink Community Cup?

“It’s almost Cup time again – Melbourne Community Cup time that is. I need to be specific these days as it only feels like yesterday that we were in Sydney launching our first Harbour City clash – between the Western Walers and Sydney Sailors. Inspired by the stunning victory by their cross border allies the Sailors, the Megahertz are ready to wage footballing domination over the Cup powerhouses The Rockdogs.

The team at Reclink Australia look forward to seeing you this year for another perfect Community Cup day – which was described to me last year by a cheery punter about 4.30pm when he said – ‘What a great day – footy terrible – music awesome’”. Adrian Panozzo – CEO, Reclink Australia.

The event will raise funds for Reclink Australia, who use sport and the arts to enhance the lives of people experiencing disadvantage and targets some of the community’s most vulnerable and isolated people – those experiencing mental illness, disability, homelessness, substance abuse, addiction, and social and economic hardship.

With a network of over 450 member agencies around the country, Reclink Australia encourages participation in physical activity in a population group under-represented in mainstream sport, recreational programs and associations. In the past 12 months Reclink Australia provided more than 76,500 individual opportunities to participate in over 4,450 sport and arts activities around the country.

Food and beverages will be available on the day, and there will be activities for the kids. Entry is $10 for adults, and $5 for kids under 16.
