Splendour In The Grass 2012 has sold out in less than an hour after being put on sale, in a huge vote of confidence for the festival which will be returning to Belongil Fields in Byron, after temporarily moving to Woodfordia in Queensland in 2009, while it waits for approval from a planning commission for a new festival site it purchased a few years back.

“Despite great efforts to have the festival at North Byron Parklands this year, we are yet to have a determination on the application.” said Splendour Co-Producer Jessica Ducrou. “In the meantime and after much consideration we are excited at the prospect of returning to the birth place of Splendour.”

A statement from the festival broke the bad news to fans still looking to buy tickets, with organisers saying they, “In what has been the fastest sell out ever, all tickets to Splendour SOLD OUT in just 43 minutes!”

There was rampant speculation surrounding the lineup this year, and while a number of names had been floated, organisers had been able to keep a lid on much of the lineup, despite the high profile leak of Jack White.

Otherwise there were a number of credible rumours making the rounds that gave us some idea of what to expect.

The Shins for instance let slip they were due to play Splendour, although admitted they were only ‘pencilled in’. A few other names such as Lana Del Rey, Sleigh Bells, and The Ting Tings were also been suggested although none of the acts responded to the rumours.

You can check out the full official lineup here.
